3 Months to Deadline
The countdown to compliance with the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) suddenly feels a lot closer with less than 100 days until the first submission deadline.
In fact, the last date for notification of compliance to the Environment Agency is 5th December 2015 – just 3 months away. This is the date by which ESOS audits must be completed and filed.
Yet industry experts believe that even with the deadline approaching, many firms have not yet started the process and there are predictions of a last minute rush which could leave some companies in limbo, struggling to get an ESOS lead assessor in time or else paying a premium to get the report done before the cut-off date.
What’s more, companies leaving it too late could find that the audit and reporting process take a lot longer than the expected. Generally speaking, it is large businesses who are affected by the scheme, but the larger the enterprise, the bigger the audit, as separate sites all need to be assessed along with transport and manufacturing.
At worst, companies who fail to file their audits prior to the deadline will face hefty fines of up to £90k, so companies are urged to start now.
