With the ESOS deadline now less than 2 months away, industry experts are advising that time has essentially run out.
One energy consultancy Inenco has already said it is not taking on any new Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) compliance orders ahead of the 5th December deadline as “time has run out”. They say that compliance takes “at least two months” to complete due to the need to compile and analyse data.
David Cockshott, Chief Commercial Officer at Inenco said:
“There is now serious concern that thousands of businesses will fail to comply in time, risking financial penalties and missing opportunities to reduce energy costs.
“The Environment Agency must accept that enforcement needs to be relaxed to recognise those businesses partway through the process who underestimated the length of time required to complete. ESOS is a major opportunity for businesses to assess their energy reduction potential and we won’t compromise on the quality of audit or recommendations.”
However, there has been no indication from the Environment agency that they will relax either the deadline or the penalties for those 99% of businesses who have yet to submit their reports.
There could be a bumper crop of penalties and fines come December.
ESOS Surveys
Business Juice’s Business Surveyor service are urging those affected to take action as quickly as possible. There may be hope that other compliance routes could offer a solution and Business Juice’s Business Surveyor advisors can also help to clarify a Company’s eligibility via other compliance routes (i.e. ISO 50001, Display Energy Certificates (DECs) or Green Deal Assessments (GDAs).
Where required, the Business Surveyor service enables qualifying companies to arrange their ESOS surveys quickly and easily in order to comply with the new legislation. They can arrange fully compliant site audits including fleet and process (manufacturing) surveys.
